A pep rally for the Greene County Rams fall teams and fun of the Iowa – Iowa State rivalry combine Thursday for the CyHawk Tailgate on the courthouse square from 5 to 8 pm.
Wilson Ave will be closed on the west side of the courthouse and Lincoln Way will be closed on the south side of the courthouse from 1 pm until tear-down and clean-up is complete.
The evening will include inflatables, games and food for all.
Special events will start with a food-eating competition on a stage at the corner of Lincoln Way and Wilson. In the relay-style race, each team player must finish their food or drink item before the next teammate can begin. As an extra challenge, no hands are allowed.
Teams should report to the stage at 5 pm so the race can begin at 5:15.
A crawling race for babies will be held on the west side of the courthouse lawn. Families can start gathering when the food-eating contest is finished, at about 5:30. Only crawling babies can participate. Parents are welcome to bring along favorite items to coax their young ones to the finish line.
All are invited for Music BINGO from 6:15 to 7 pm on the courthouse plaza. Mahanay Maestro Rick Morain will play the bell tower carillon and the Shuffle Couple will play favorite sports “pump-up” songs. Four games of BINGO will be played, each with a chance to win prizes. There is no charge to play.
The winner of a pair of tickets to the CyHawk football game Saturday will be drawn at 7:30 pm. The tickets are for premium seats valued at $750 each; they’re donated by Home State Bank. Raffle tickets are available at the Welcome Center at Thomas Jefferson Gardens or during the tailgate party. Raffle tickets are $20 each, three for $50, or 10 for $100. Cash, check, or Venmo will be accepted.
A Ram fall sports pep rally will take place on the stage at 7:30. Fall athletes and coaches will be introduced, and athletes will stay for autographs. CyHawk Tailgate sponsors are Power Lift and Home State Bank. The event is planned by Jefferson Matters Main Street.
